# Stap 1: Instellen

Eerst informeert u zich over de rol van de DPO en de vereisten voor het aanstellen van een DPO, en vervolgens beslist u of u al dan niet een DPO aanstellen in uw organisatie.

Uw keuze zal vallen op een medewerker (DPO of niet) die op zijn beurt een netwerk van AVG-correspondenten binnen de verschillende afdelingen van het bedrijf zal definiëren en leiden.

De aanstelling van een functionaris voor gegevensbescherming (DPO) is **verplicht** voor:

* Overheidsinstanties ;
* Bedrijven waarvan de kernactiviteiten bestaan uit het regelmatig en systematisch controleren van personen op grote schaal, of de grootschalige verwerking van zogenaamde "gevoelige" gegevens of gegevens met betrekking tot strafrechtelijke veroordelingen en strafbare feiten.
